April is National Stress Awareness Month
April is Stress Awareness Month, and we’re shining a light on how stress uniquely impacts women’s health. Women often carry the weight of multiple roles—juggling careers, caregiving, relationships, and societal expectations—which can lead to heightened and chronic stress levels. And while some stress is inevitable, unregulated stress can take a serious toll on both body and mind.
Why it matters for women:
Chronic stress can contribute to:
✅ Anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges
✅ Heart disease and high blood pressure
✅ Hormonal imbalances (affecting menstrual cycles and fertility)
✅ A weakened immune system
✅ Sleep disturbances and digestive issues
Top 4 stressors for women:
• Work-Life Balance: Heavy workloads, family responsibilities, and little personal time
• Financial Stress: Budgeting concerns, caregiving costs, and retirement planning
• Relationship & Caregiving Stress: Supporting children, aging parents, or managing strained personal dynamics
• Health & Body Image Pressures: Expectations around appearance, aging, and managing chronic conditions
Enjoy this month’s Stress Regulation Practices:
Here are 3 powerful somatic tools to help you release tension and regulate your nervous system:
1️⃣ Shake It Out (Neurogenic Tremoring)
How: Stand with your feet hip-width apart, soften your knees, and begin gently bouncing. Let your arms, shoulders, and head shake freely. Gradually increase intensity, shaking your entire body for 1–2 minutes. Pause, take a deep breath, and notice how you feel.
2️⃣ Heart-Holding Breathwork
How: Place one hand over your heart and the other on your belly. Inhale through your nose for 4 counts, hold for 4, and exhale slowly through your mouth for 6 counts. Repeat for 3–5 minutes.
3️⃣ Grounding with the 5-4-3-2-1 Method
How: Use your senses to reconnect with the present moment:
🔹 5 things you see
🔹 4 things you can touch
🔹 3 things you hear
🔹 2 things you smell
🔹 1 thing you taste
Stress doesn’t have to run your life.
